Funding & Fee Status

UK and Irish candidates are eligible for the CDT UKRI fully funded 4-year studentships that cover both fees and maintenance.

Irish students are required to be settled and ordinarily resident in the UK on the day on which the first term of their first academic year begins.

EU candidates with permanent residency or settled status in the UK are expected to qualify for home level fees and will therefore be eligible for full studentships. EU candidates with pre-settled status are expected to qualify for home level fees if they meet the UKRI residency criteria.

The majority of awards are made to candidates who are eligible for home fees, but up to 30% may be made to International (including EU citizens not qualifying for the above criteria) candidates. Successful international candidates can only be considered for partial funding (home-level fees and maintenance) from UKRI. The candidates who are selected for these studentships are encouraged to also apply to other sources of funding, and will be nominated for various additional funding sources by the CDT (if successful in the interview) to maximise their chances of gaining the necessary funding and be able to cover the difference between the Home and International fee rates.
