SynTech Annual Symposium

At this event the 2019 cohort of CDT students presented their projects to provide opportunities for discussion and feedback on their progress. Our second cohort students also gave short introduction talks about their initial research objectives and their plans moving forward. Combined, this will provide an excellent opportunity to learn more about the research being undertaken at the centre.

Date: 20th January 2021

CDT Networking events

These networking events will be held every 3 - 4 months and are a great opportunity for students on the SynTech programme to network with industry, academics and other students.

CDT Industry Talks

These industry talks will be held throughout the year and will be an excellent opportunity for our students to hear directly from industry the type of research that is taking place and the challenges that need to be overcome.

Date: 12th May 2021 with Steven Kearnes from Google
13th July 2021 with Melodie Christensen from Merck.
Dec 2021 with David Battersby from GSK

SynTech CDT journal club and discussion

The Syntech cohorts hold a journal club to discuss their research and current problems within their research areas.

These sessions are self lead by the CDT students taking turns to present to the SynTech group.

Joint CDT Conference in Data Driven Chemical Synthesis and Catalysis

This conference was organised by the four EPSRC funded CDTs working at the interface of Chemistry and Data Science to address modern global challenges. CDT Cohort 1 students from each of the Centres presented their work, to give an insight into how these fields can interact to provide modern approaches to deliver efficient and sophisticated research. The format of the day took the form of a competition with 15-min presentations from students spread across five parallel sessions taking place in the morning and the best one from each session presented again in the afternoon where they were scored by our industrial advisory members/event sponsors. We also had poster presentations from students working in related fields during the day and the event was concluded with two plenary talks from our keynote speakers Prof Connor Coley and Prof Abigail Doyle followed by the announcement of prizes.

Date: 20th April 2021

Annual Machine Learning Conference at Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology

The 4th International Conference on Machine Learning and AI in (bio)Chemical Engineering will take place online. The theme for this year is "Democratising ML in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering".

Date: 6th and 7th of July 2021
